Gopalganj Correspondent: On the Teesta Accord, Deputy Minister for Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim MP said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is doing what she needs to do while keeping the interests of Bangladesh intact by maintaining friendship with neighboring countries in all international matters.” All the hopes, aspirations and confidence of the people of Bangladesh surround Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Teesta agreement with India will be implemented while protecting the interests of Bangladesh during the tenure of this government.
He said this in response to various questions of journalists after paying homage at the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj at 11am on Thursday.
The deputy minister said the BNP could not sign the Ganga agreement when it was in power. Khaleda Zia forgot about the Ganga agreement. But Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina did not forget that she brought 35,000 cusecs of water to Bangladesh by agreement. All international problems have been solved under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
The Deputy Minister further said that DPP approval work is underway for 13 projects including West Gopalganj Integrated Water Development Project and re-excavation of rivers and canals in Gopalganj at a cost of Tk 11.5 billion.
Earlier, Deputy Minister for Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim MP paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by laying a wreath at the altar of the mausoleum. Later, he took part in Fateha recitation and special munajat seeking the forgiveness of the souls of Bangabandhu and his slain family members.
He then inspected the erosion protection work of Madhumati river at Gobra union of Gopalganj Sadar upazila, planting tree saplings on the banks of Tungipara canal flowing along the mausoleum as part of a nationwide tree planting program on the occasion of Muzir year.
Wife Tahmina Shilu, Chief Engineer Waheed Uddin Chowdhury, Private Secretary to the Minister Kamrul Islam, Gopalganj District Awami League General Secretary Mahabub Ali Khan, Tungipara Upazila Chairman Solaiman Biswas, Gopalganj Water Development Board Executive Engineer Md Halim Salehi, Sub-Divisional Engineer Mir Shahinur Rahman, Sadekul Alam Choyan, Madaripur District Awami League President Sahabuddin Mollah, Shariatpur District Shakhipur Thana Awami League President Humayun Kabir Mollah, General Secretary Atiqur Rahman Manik Sarkar were present.
Later, the Deputy Minister inaugurated the Quick Service Delivery Point at 12:30 pm at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Deputy Commissioner Shahida Sultana, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Saidur Rahman Khan, District Awami League President Chowdhury Emdadul Haque, General Secretary Mahabub Ali Khan, Sadar Upazila Chairman Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Bachchu and other leaders and administration officials of Awami League and allied organizations were present.
